As a child, Destiny always stood out from the crowd. She was that cliche 'light-up-the-room' child, with a bright smile, pearly white teeth, perfect hair and always dressed for the nines. Her father was a business man, who was consistently travelling to the big city for work; every trip, he would bring back a small expensive gift for Destiny, which encouraged Destiny's dream of wanting to move to the city.
Growing up, the family's small two-story, brick townhouse home was the same as every other house in their street. Each had the same car, the same reddish-brown washed bricks, and two pristine rows of rose bushes either side of the driveway. Destiny's mother ran the social club for the neighborhood, joined by many of Destiny's classmate's mothers. Destiny was never able to eavesdrop on their gatherings though, as they were often held during the day when Destiny was off to school.
While Destiny was given everything her heart desired, she believed that she was an independent child. She could do her own hair for school and parties, she was given a key to the house so she could walk home from school with her friends, and was given a mobile phone on her 10th birthday with unlimited access to all social media accounts.
Not understanding the dangers of social media for young teens, Destiny became obsessed with her appearance, comparing herself with her peers (believing to be above them all, of course), and making sure her digital profile showed the best aspects of her life (which was difficult to choose, since she had a great life!)
Over the years, Destiny became quite self-absorbed. Most of her childhood friends were kind to her directly, but Destiny began noticing their subtle sarcastic messages via her social media accounts. Believing that she was better than her peers, she dismissed these messages as jealousy and continued in her quest of the perfect image online.
On her 18th birthday, her parents gifted her the best thing she could have ever wished for, an apartment in the city, all for herself, paid for the first 4 weeks! Her father said that would be enough time for her to find a job in the city, by which she would then be able to continue the payments herself, or upgrade to a bigger apartment to satisfy her desired party lifestyle. Destiny, ecstatic at the opportunity, shared her excitement over social media rather than contact her friends directly (she wasn't close to many of them anymore, and she knew she was destined for big things in the city, she didn't need them holding her back). She packed only some essentials, leaving behind a lot of materialistic things, believing them to be a gift to her parents for their kindness (even though everything left behind was originally purchased by her parents). Her mother assisted her in moving by paying for the moving van, and extra for them to place it in the apartment according to Destiny's desire, and together, Destiny and her mother decorated the interior of her apartment.
Once her apartment was all set up, her mother gave her a tearful goodbye, as well as some extra money (just in case!), and took off back to the suburbs. Destiny looked out her bedroom window, overlooking the city center and the tiny ants that were city-natives going about their business below. She couldn't WAIT to see what was in her neighborhood! She knew she'd be able to make friends pretty quickly, and building her social network, she'd be up in the big leagues in no time!
What job could she possibly get to let her live her best social life as well as networking with high-end businesses and companies to increase her own dream of fame?
Hey there, this is a great chapter. I'd love to find out how Destiny manages to keep her expensive lifestyle on her own!
