Fixer Upper Challenge

Updated: Dec 14, 2020

This challenge has been altered to suit our facebook group challenge with an easy and hard mode and varied goals.

Challenge Goal

To have a completely renovated, clean and functional family home. The challenge ends when there is no debris/damage or messy items left in the house, and when each room of the house has each of the basic necessities (decorated as you like!).

Extra challenge: To complete the landscaping of the lot too.

Setup:

  1. Download a house from the gallery with #fixerupper. You can find three on my gallery, Siriusly_Black20 (One two story, two single story). You can create your own, get creative with the damage and mess to the house if you do!

  2. Create a sim or family of your choice (if pre-existing family with large funds you can purchase your fixerupper home outright).

  3. Using the "freerealestate on" cheat, allow your sim or family to move into the fixer upper home (make sure it is furnished to keep all of the damage and debris).

  4. Once moved in, you can use your existing household funds (up to 20k for one sim, plus 5k for any extra sims) to provide the cheapest necessities (fridge, stove, counters, toilet, bath/shower, sink, beds, couch, tv, skill builders, etc). Use the "moveobjects on" cheat to place items if the fixer upper house damage is in the way of placing objects.

Easy Mode Rules:

  1. Your sim can earn money in any form you like - careers, hobbies, freelancing or selling collectibles. Extra household sims can also earn money.

  2. Every time your sim's household funds hit 5k, you can upgrade/replace as many objects as you can with that 5k. You might not get to 0, so if you can't upgrade any more, you start working towards the 5k again. Once you leave build/buy mode you can't go back to upgrade/replace items until you are at 5k again.

  3. Every purchased/upgraded item must start with the cheapest option (which can then be changed for the more expensive options as you go along).

  4. ALL damage/ debris/ mess items MUST be put in the household inventory where possible. If this is not possible, and it adds money to your household funds, you can choose to have your sim donate or use the "money x" cheat to remove the funds from your household.

Hard Mode Rules:

  1. Your sim can only earn money from one form of your choice (a career, or a hobby, or collectibles). You may assign any additional household members a part-time job only.

  2. Every time your sim's household funds hit 8k, you can upgrade/replace as many objects as you can with that 8k. You might not get to 0, so if you can't upgrade any more, you start working towards the 8k again. Once you leave build/buy mode you can't go back to upgrade/replace items until you are at 8k again.

  3. Every purchased item must begin with the lowest/cheapest option you have (For example, you can't buy the $2,000 toilet, you must start with the $200 toilet). Each time you are in build/buy mode, you can only upgrade items by one level (so if you are upgrading the $200 toilet, you can't purchase the $2,000 toilet, you must choose the next toilet up in the price list).

  4. ALL damage/ debris/ mess items MUST be put in the household inventory where possible. If this is not possible, and it adds money to your household funds, you can choose to have your sim donate or use the "money x" cheat to remove the funds from your household.

Extreme Mode Rules:

You'll need a random number generator for this version, you can use the google one here: https://bit.ly/2WcvB58

  1. Once you've moved into your fixerupper, your sim can not have any job. The only way to get money is to sell found items. This can be harvestables, fish, items found fishing, dumpster items (see rule below for more details here), or gifts from other sims.

  2. All your purchased items must be placed outside the house (toilet, shower, grill, tent, seat/table, etc. Packs such as outdoor retreat and get together will help here!), as you cannot enter a run down lot without securing it first!

  3. Your sim must achieve at least level 3 handiness, level 3 fitness and level 3 logic to begin any renovations or clearing. To clear any landscaping, your sim must achieve at least level 3 gardening.

  4. If you are using the dumpster (Eco Lifestyle), you must keep all furniture you find and use it to help furnish your house until all rooms are cleared and ready for improvement.

  5. When clearing the lot, you must clear in this order: Remove all mess first (vines, rubbish, old crates, vats, etc), then you "repair" the walls (rebuild the gaps, remove all stains and cracks), then you are able to redo the floors and wall paints (once the area is empty), and then place your cheapest furniture. Follow the hard mode rules when improving each room regarding the upgrading of furniture/objects.

  6. To make sure your sim doesn't overwork themselves, you can only do one action per 24 sim hours.

  7. Using the random number generator, work out which rooms you are able to renovate first! Use this for each step listed above. All mess must be removed from all areas before you can begin to repair, then all rooms must be repaired before you can begin to redo the floors and walls.
