This challenge is redesigned for our Group Challenge (find at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/Sims4.Groupchallenges ) use hashtag #RichestoRagsGroupChallenge when sharing your progress! Original creator is Ambrjet and the challenge can be found at: http://ambrjet.blogspot.com/2016/06/the-sims-4-riches-to-rags-challenge.html )
The goal is to have your Sims go from the Rich lifestyle to living on the streets!
Guidelines:
1. Create your Sim
- Can be a Teen, Young Adult, Adult or Elder
- Lifespan settings is optional
- You may use CC
- Do not select an aspiration that requires a career or earning money (You can check the list of aspirations here: https://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/aspirations/ )
- Choose whatever traits you like, though I recommend avoiding materialistic or snob, as your sim will end up losing everything.
- You can add family members to your Sim if you wish. Though the same guidelines still apply for these sims.
2. Choose or Build a Home for your Sim (and Family) to move into.
- Easy level: House must be at least 100,000 simoleons
- Medium level: House must be at least 200,000 simoleons
- Hard level: House must be at least 300,000 simoleons
Note:
- You can either build once they've moved onto the lot (use a money cheat to give them funds -- "testingcheats on" and either "motherlode" until you have the amount needed, or type "money x" and replace x with the amount you want in the household funds).
- Once you have built the house, set the household funds to $25,000 simoleons (easy), $50,000 (medium), or $75,000 (hard)
- You may use CC, but keep the cost of the items and the specifications of the items realistic to actual game content. For example, you shouldn't have a bed with high specifications for only $10 simoleons, or an unbreakable, high reliability toilet for only $100 simoleons, etc.
3. No jobs allowed! This includes odd jobs, freelancer careers, part-time jobs, etc.
4. You cannot purchase any aspiration rewards that save you money - frugal, money tree, free services, etc.
5. Money earning skills are discouraged - gardening, painting, busking, writing. You cannot sell written pieces to publishers or self-publish. Your sim may still learn these skills via books if you wish.
6. Spend as much money as you can! Go on lavish vacations, throw the biggest parties you can, hire as many caterers, mixologists, entertainers, services as you like! Purchase as many books and gifts as you want!
7. As soon as the bills come in, they must be paid! If you haven't got the household funds to cover it straight up, you must start selling objects in your house. There are TWO options going ahead!
OPTION 1:
Follow this order when selling (NOTE: You cannot remove a room until ALL items are sold following this order): a) Decorations - wall decorations, rugs, statues, paintings, clutter items
b) Outdoor furniture (can leave the lights until later) - lounges, chairs, tables, statues, features. (Can leave the pool (if you've got one) until later, but sell all the items in and around the pool, minus the lights).
c) Comfort and skill items - you can leave (per sim) one lounge, one bed, one dresser, one TV OR computer (you can downsize to a cheaper version), and one skill item (that doesn't earn money). In the dining room, you can leave the table but leave only one chair per sim.
d) Bathrooms/Laundry - sell the washing machine and dryer and leave one laundry basket. If you can afford it, you can purchase the outdoor washing tub and clothes line. Regarding bathroom items, you can leave one toilet, one shower or tub and one sink (per sim).
e) Kitchen - sell any luxury items first - dishwashers, microwave, breakfast bars, bars and stools, etc. You can keep one fridge, one stove, two counters (recommended you downsize to cheaper versions).
f) Lights must be left as the last thing in a room to be sold, once they are the only thing left, you can then sell the room as a whole (windows included).
You must leave as the last things to sell - bed, toilet, shower/tub, sink, lounge, chair/table, and one entertainment item. The challenge is complete once these items are sold, and you can no longer afford your household bills.
You may now work your way back up following the Rags to Riches challenge if you like!
OPTION 2:
This option allows you to sell a room at a time, instead of individual items. However it does have it's restrictions too, so read carefully! a) You must leave one bathroom, one bedroom, one kitchen and one living/family room.
b) You CANNOT build any new rooms. You may use the half wall tool to section off part of a room, or room dividers - however windows and doors must stay where they are.
c) For Easy and Medium level, you may move rooms around ONCE. For example - if you delete a hallway, you can move a bathroom to the side of the living room so it remains part of the house. However you must leave one of the doors where they are (you can't delete both doors to the rooms and place a new one. Delete only one door). Outside windows must stay where they are, if there are windows being placed between rooms after moving, these can be sold.
d) For HARD level, you cannot move any of the rooms! As you delete, if there are gaps between the final rooms allowed, your sim must go outside to move between these rooms. For example, if you delete a hallway, your sim must walk outside to get from one room to the other rooms.
You must leave at least one room (either a bedroom, a bathroom, the kitchen or the living room) until you can no longer afford the household bills. Choose wisely as you can't move the items from the rooms into your final room, so once your bathroom is gone, it's gone!
The challenge is complete once the last room is sold, and you can no longer afford your household bills.
